Bill Linnane, a proud alum of Wentworth Institute of Technology, and his wife Beverly, were recognized for their outstanding community service with the 2023 Westborough Good Scout Award, a testament to their unwavering dedication to their community and their embodiment of the Scout Oath's spirit.

The couple was honored during the recent Good Scout Award Dinner in Westborough, Mass. The event raises money to support Scouting while recognizing people who personify the Scout Oath and have excelled in their careers and personal lives. The Mayflower Council, BSA presents this award to individuals who have exemplified themselves in outstanding community leadership, have demonstrated a concern for the welfare of others, and have been role models to all young people.

Bill, a graduate of Westborough High School in 1958, is a retired construction management professional who earned an associate degree in Civil Engineering from Wentworth.

Bill’s expertise in construction management took him across the country and around the world, from Taiwan and South Africa to local projects like the Mill Pond Dam. Throughout his successful career, he never lost sight of the importance of giving back to his community.

Beverly, a registered nurse who specialized in surgical care, also found time to volunteer alongside Bill. She served as a leader for both her daughter's Girl Scout troop and her son's Cub Scout troop, leaving a lasting impression on countless young people. Her passion for community extended beyond Scouting, as she actively participated in the Music Parents Association, the Bay State Park Committee, and served as president of the Westborough Garden Club.

Bill additionally served on the town’s Advisory Finance Committee and Charter Review Committee, and was a trustee of the Westborough Public Library. He is also a founding member of the Westborough High School Music Parents and a dedicated mentor through the Charlotte Spinney Mentoring Program. Beverly's contributions include spearheading the creation of a memorial garden at the high school walkway and collaborating with the town to place the first flower boxes on downtown sidewalks.

The Good Scout event featured local dignitaries, including Mass. State Senator Michael O. Moore, lauding the Linnane family's work.

"We've both been active in community activities and are overwhelmed to be the Good Scout Award recipients in 2023," Bill said in a statement.
