Carbon Student Health Services

Colleges of the Fenway Student Health Services now powered by Carbon Health

Carbon Student Health Services at the Tree House clinic provides primary care and mental health needs, provided collaboratively with Wentworth’s Center for Wellness. When Wentworth is open, the Tree House Clinic is also open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Appointments may be scheduled online or by calling (617)879-5220. Walk-in scheduling may also be available. Students are encouraged to register as a patient with Carbon Student Health Services before their first appointment. Students are required to present their student identification cards at every visit.

Students may access care on campus at the MassArt Tree House building, by visiting Carbon’s urgent care locations in the Boston area or by using Carbon Health’s technology platform (telehealth). Except as described in the SAHF below, students are financially responsible for all charges incurred.

Any student, regardless of insurance coverage, may use Carbon Student Health Services in the Tree House. Except for students choosing to self-pay, Carbon Student Health Services will bill students’ insurance as follows*:

  • For students covered by commercial insurance (i.e., non-governmental insurance) Wentworth’s Student Administrative Health Fee (SAHF) benefits pays up to the first $35 of eligible charges incurred at the Tree House clinic that are not paid by students’ commercial health insurance.
  • For students covered by MassHealth (Medicaid) or Tricare, Wentworth’s SAHF pays the first $35 of eligible charges before billing is submitted to MassHealth or Tricare.
  • Out-of-state Medicaid is not accepted at the Tree House Clinic.  Students with out-of-state Medicaid should not waive the Wentworth Student health Plan.

All eligible services and benefits, and other terms and conditions, are governed solely by the SAHF plan document.

For more details, please refer to Patient Rights and Responsibilities for confidentiality of care provided by Carbon Student Health Services at the Tree House clinic, which is available at either the website or at the Tree House clinic.

In the case of a life-threatening emergency, when on campus, students should immediately contact the Wentworth Campus Police at 617-989-4444. When off-campus, students should call 911.

* SAHF funds may be available to cover charges incurred at the Tree House clinic when Wentworth determines it is in the best interests of either the student or Wentworth to not bill insurance if doing so would jeopardize the student’s wellbeing. Refer to the SAHF plan document for full details of this provision.

Documentation around Student Administrative Health Fees (SAHF)

Wentworth Institute of Technology Student Health Insurance Plan

According to Massachusetts law, Wentworth students enrolled for 9 or more credit hours per semester, including co-op students and international students, will be required, as a condition of enrollment, to have adequate health insurance. This regulation has been put in place to ensure that students have access to quality and appropriate health care while pursuing their college career at Wentworth. Students who are not enrolled in a qualified health plan will be required to enroll in the Wentworth Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), which has been designed specifically to meet the needs of Wentworth students.

The SHIP offers exceptional coverage at an outstanding value compared to most options available to students. For coverage details including costs, benefits, exclusions, any reductions or limitations, please refer to the plan information online or call 800-977-4698. The SHIP is underwritten by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Insurance Company and administered by UnitedHealthcare Student Resources.

All students who are enrolled for nine or more credit hours per semester (or on co-op) will automatically be billed for the student insurance plan.

If the student is covered by another plan that offers comparable coverage and wants to waive the college insurance plan, the student MUST complete the Health Insurance Waiver online by the semester bill due date. Once the waiver is completed, a waiver credit will be added to the account.

If the student wants to purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan, the student must complete Health Insurance Enrollment form online. The premium is due in full by the semester bill due date.

Any questions regarding the billing process should be directed to the Student Service Center (617-989-4020).

Wentworth requires international students to be enrolled in the college plan (SHIP).

Dependent coverage is available for dependents of students who enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan. Rates for dependents can be found online https://www.uhcsr.com/wentworth.

The Massachusetts Division of Health Care Finance and Policy has ruled that free care provided by the Uncompensated Care Pool is not comparable coverage. If you should have any questions regarding the state-mandated qualifying student health insurance program, please visit the Massachusetts Division of Health Care's website.

Students should know whether they have the college insurance plan (SHIP) or a family plan.  Any student seeking medical care should have the following information available:

  • current insurance card,
  • know under whose plan you're covered (mother, father, yourself),
  • know the name of the plan,
  • know the policy number of the plan, and the address
