Student Laptop Purchase Program
Learning Starts with the Right Laptop
Buy a laptop selected with academic departments, backed by on-campus tech support, and ready for everything your coursework requires.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
When Should I Order My Laptop, and Why Does Ordering Early Matter?
Wentworth strongly recommends ordering your laptop as early as possible after the purchase portal opens. Ordering early allows you to take advantage of the lowest available pricing and increases the likelihood that you will receive your laptop before the start of the Fall semester.
Laptop prices are expected to increase throughout the year due to external factors, including chip shortages. To help students save, Wentworth’s partner, Micros Northeast, has secured a limited pre‑order of 700 laptops at a discounted student price. Once these are sold out, additional inventory will be available, likely at higher pricing.
To ensure your laptop is shipped in time for the start of the Fall semester, orders must be placed by August 21 for credit card payments. However, ordering early is the best way to reduce the risk of delays and additional costs.
-
What Should I Know If I Choose to Bring My Own Laptop Instead of Purchasing Through Wentworth?
Participation in the Student Laptop Purchase Program is optional. Students who choose to bring their own laptop must ensure that their device meets Wentworth’s required technical specifications for their enrolled major. See this year's required specifications.
Bringing a laptop that meets the required specifications is essential to ensure that it is compatible with required academic software.
Additionally, students who bring their own laptop are encouraged to purchase an extended warranty directly from their laptop manufacturer or vendor. While Tech Spot can provide support for academic software and general consultation, hardware repair services are only available for laptops purchased through the Student Laptop Purchase Program.
-
What Repair and Support Services Are Included with Laptops Purchased Through the Program?
Laptops purchased through the Student Laptop Purchase Program include a four‑year manufacturer warranty with Accidental Damage Protection, as well as on‑campus hardware repair service provided by Tech Spot, Wentworth’s technology help desk.
Warranty coverage and terms may vary by academic year. Students should refer to the program documentation from the year they purchased their laptop for specific warranty details.
Students who choose to bring their own laptop instead of purchasing through the program are encouraged to obtain an extended warranty directly from their laptop manufacturer or vendor. Tech Spot can assist these students with academic software support and general consultation, but does not provide hardware repair services for laptops that were not purchased through the Student Laptop Purchase Program.
-
How Will Required Academic Software Be Installed or Accessed?
Wentworth provides access to designated academic software for all students, at no additional charge.
Students will be provided with instructions on how and when they can access a software portal that allows them to download and install academic software on laptops that meet the required specifications, regardless of whether they were purchased through Wentworth’s laptop program.
-
Will Laptop Specifications Meet a Student’s Academic Needs for All Four Years?
Yes. Each year, DTS works closely with academic departments to identify laptop specifications that are intended to support students throughout the full duration of their academic program.
Academic software requirements may evolve over time. If compatibility issues arise, DTS works with faculty and software vendors to help address those issues and support students’ continued access to required tools.
-
Why Are Apple Laptops Not Included in the Purchase Options?
Some required academic software used across Wentworth programs is not natively supported on macOS and would require workarounds such as dual‑boot configurations. This includes newer Apple hardware platforms, such as the MacBook Neo.
These additional requirements increase support complexity and make it more difficult to provide a consistent academic and technical support experience across all programs. To ensure reliability, consistency, and effective on‑campus support, the Student Laptop Purchase Program standardizes on a Windows‑based laptop that meets the needs of all programs.
Apple laptops also tend to be more expensive when configured to meet comparable performance requirements, which could increase the financial burden on students.
-
What Happens to My Laptop Order If I Decide Not to Attend Wentworth?
Laptops purchased through the Student Laptop Purchase Program are owned by the student. If you decide not to attend Wentworth, any cancellation or return must be handled directly with the program vendor, Micros Northeast.
- If you have not yet received your laptop: You may contact Micros Northeast to cancel your order and request a refund.
- If you have already received your laptop: Micros Northeast’s return policy applies. Currently, laptops may be returned for a full refund within 30 days of purchase, provided the laptop is in its original condition and includes all original packaging.
For the most up‑to‑date return terms, students should refer to the Micros Northeast purchase documentation associated with their order.
Want the Best Deal? Don't Wait.
Ordering early means you get one of the limited number of laptops secured at the current discounted rate. It’s the easiest way to avoid potential price increases and delays.
