Major General and Alumnus Named Veterans Event Speaker

Decorated major general and Wentworth alum Allan M. Pepin has been named keynote speaker for Wentworth Institute of Technology’s 15th Annual Veterans Luncheon event on November 3. 

Major General Pepin will join City Council President Ed Flynn, Wentworth President Mark A. Thompson, Wentworth’s Director of Military-Connected Services Michael Siegel, members of the ROTC, current students, and alumni, among others, during the event honoring members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

MG Pepin assumed command of the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington in 2021, previously serving as the Deputy Commanding General for the United States Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C. He received his commission as a distinguished military graduate through the U.S. Army ROTC program at Wentworth in 1988 where he received a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering.  

At the General Officer headquarters level, Pepin served as the chief of staff for the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, and as the executive officer to the Commanding General, U.S. Army Forces Command. MG Pepin’s deployments include classified deployments and multiple rotations to both Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (A) (SOAR), 82nd Airborne Division, and 3d Infantry Division.  

Pepin has earned the Combat Action Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, the Master Aviator Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the Ranger Tab, which he attributes to the teamwork and accomplishments of the soldiers and civilians he served with throughout his career. MG Pepin additionally holds master’s degrees in Business Management and National Security and Strategic Studies. 

City of Boston District 2 Councilor and City Council President Ed Flynn will also speak at the event. Flynn served for 24 years in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Navy reserve. He is a Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and helped with disaster relief efforts in Haiti.

Before taking his seat as a city councilor, Flynn was a probation officer at Suffolk Superior Court. He also served for five years in the U.S. Department of Labor under President Clinton, where he worked to expand access to affordable health care and increase the federal minimum wage. 

Coordinated by the offices of University Events and Military-Connected Services, the Veterans Luncheon is an annual tradition that brings together current and former members of the United States Armed Services in Watson Auditorium. This year's Luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. and interested parties may register online.
