The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) Boston Chapter recently featured Wentworth Institute of Technology student Nora Hess (Class of 2026) in its Designer Spotlight series, recognizing her emerging talent within the Greater Boston design community.

As a Wentworth ID student, Hess approaches her craft as a bridge between imagination and tangible experience. According to the IDSA feature, her work is heavily inspired by a childhood spent building with everyday materials, a foundation that shaped a detail-driven mindset and a commitment to designing objects that invite curiosity and human connection.

Hess' portfolio balances storytelling with technical precision, emphasizing hands-on making, material exploration, and extensive iteration. She is particularly drawn to drawing in users through movement and small moments of discovery, with an eye toward designs that feel approachable and grounded in real human behavior.

Recent Work

The IDSA spotlight highlighted three projects that demonstrate the range of her skill set:

  • Bobble Bobcat — A wooden, bobcat-inspired children's toy that explores animated movement within specific material constraints
  • Cloudsteppers — A lifestyle collection designed to extend the Clarks Cloudsteppers line, targeting a youthful, curiosity-driven consumer
  • Moody Monster — An educational electronic device designed to help young children recognize and regulate their emotions
