From Edwards Hall to Forever: A Wentworth Love Story
With Valentine's Day approaching, we are looking back at the connections that started right here on Huntington Avenue. While Wentworth Institute of Technology is known for building careers, for some, it is also the foundation of a lifetime together.
In the summer of 1976, two students crossed paths while moving into Edwards Hall. What started as a chance meeting over a stack of pillows turned into a bond that spanned degrees, long-distance co-ops, and eventually, a move down South.
Nearly 50 years later, Alumna Camille D’Agostino Glick shares the story of how she met her husband, Charles “Dewey” Glick, and how their time at Wentworth sparked a love story that is still going strong.
In Camilla’s own words, here is their story:
"We met on my first day at Wentworth in July 1976. I arrived at Wentworth from my home in New York to take a Physics and a Math class over the summer. I was getting ready to carry the last of my stuff (pillows) up to the apartment in Edwards Hall on the 3rd floor when this guy came by and asked if he could help me. I said yes. That was Dewey.
He was in Edwards Hall on the 5th floor for the summer semester of the first Wentworth co-op class, Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Dewey and I would visit after our class, sometimes we would go out to eat. One day we went for a walk on Nahant Beach and decided to see each other in the fall, even though he would be working at his co-op job in Connecticut.
That fall I was in the Nuclear Engineering Technology program. Dewey visited me at Wentworth almost every weekend. Back then there was no FaceTime or cell phones. The only way to keep in touch was the pay phone at the main entrance of Edwards Hall.
Dewey was back at Wentworth for the spring semester; he was in Evans Way and I was in Edwards Hall. We saw each other every day.
That summer I went back to New York, and Dewey completed the degree. The co-op graduation was held in September 1977 at Wentworth and I attended. Cap and gowns were not issued, so the guys wore suits when presented with their diploma.
Dewey got a job in Vermont as a design engineer. I attended Wentworth that fall and spring. We visited each other on the weekends as much as possible, and he would drive to Wentworth, or I would drive to Vermont with a friend.
I graduated in June of 1978 with an Associate in Engineering degree and got a job as an instrument tech on Long Island, New York. Dewey and I continued dating long distance until November 17, 1979, when we got married and he moved to New York. Dewey’s job was now a service engineer; he traveled during the week and only needed to be in the Vermont office twice a month.
In the spring of 1980, he transferred to North Carolina. We bought a house there, which we still live in and where we raised our two daughters.
We met at Wentworth in July 1976, and 50 years later we will be celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary this year. Wentworth not only gave us a great education but also gave us a long lasting love story!"
