Test-Optional Admissions for Full-time Admissions
Wentworth adopted a test-optional admissions policy in 2018 as part of its institutional commitment to inclusive excellence. We encourage students of all backgrounds to pursue their passions, especially in the science and engineering fields where women, students of color and first generation students have been historically underrepresented. Below are some frequently asked questions to address questions you may have. If you do not see your questions addressed here, please feel free to contact us at admissions@wit.edu or 617-989-4000.

Why SAT/ACT Test-Optional?
The research conducted has found that standardized test scores are not always the best indicator of academic success and can be a barrier to applying to college for some students. Wentworth has long practiced holistic admissions and will continue to do so with more emphasis placed on high school GPA, the rigor of courses, extracurricular activities, and personal qualities as evidenced in the applicant’s essay and letter of recommendation. We’re looking for students who are focused and motivated to succeed in their chosen field of architecture, computer science, design, engineering, or management with an understanding of how Wentworth’s hands-on learning approach and cooperative education program will lead them to create smarter, better, bolder solutions to 21st-century challenges.
-
Are All Applicants Eligible for SAT/ACT Test-Optional?
Yes, with the exception of home-schooled applicants and applicants attending a high school that employs a narrative assessment of course performance and does not provide grades on a 4.0 scale. International students are not required to submit SAT/ACT scores but must show proof of English proficiency. Please see the English Proficiency Requirements.
-
How Do I Decide Whether to Submit SAT/ACT Test Scores?
If you feel that your SAT/ACT scores will strengthen your application, then you should submit the scores. If you feel that the SAT/ACT scores are not a reflection of your academic ability and would prefer the admissions committee review your admissions file based on your high school performance, extracurricular activities, and personal qualities as evidenced in your essay and letter of recommendation then you may decide not to submit the scores. Please note: If you do decide to submit test scores, Wentworth requires official test scores that come from the testing agency.
-
Will My Potential for Admittance be Affected if I Do Not Submit SAT/ACT Test Scores?
Not at all. Your admissions application will be reviewed holistically with or without test scores.
-
Am I Eligible for Merit Scholarships if I don’t submit SAT/ACT Test Scores?
Absolutely. All accepted students are considered for merit scholarships based on overall academic performance.
