What’s Included When You Participate

All Wentworth students are required to bring a laptop that meets the technical specifications of their major or program. This helps you have a high-quality academic experience where you can fully participate in hands-on coursework and use required academic software.

Participating in the Student Laptop Purchase Program takes the guesswork out of that process and offers meaningful value, support, and peace of mind. Since it launched in Fall 2022, 3 out 4 Wentworth students have purchased their laptop through this program.

Benefits of purchasing through the program include:

Which Laptop Is Right for Your Program?

DTS works with academic departments to identify the best device for each program. For the 2025-2026 academic year, two HP models are available:

  • HP ZBook Power G11 (SKU 9A813AV)
  • HP Elitebook 840 G11 (SKU 8M4W7AV 4YR)

The biggest difference between the two models is the graphics card: the ZBook offers more power for students in design-heavy programs.

When you log into the purchase portal, you’ll be prompted to enter your program, which will direct you to the model that’s right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How Will Academic Software Be Distributed?

Wentworth provides access to designated academic software for all students at no additional charge.

Students will be provided with instructions on how and when they can access a software portal that allows them to download and install academic software on laptops that meet the required specifications, regardless of whether they were purchased through Wentworth’s laptop program.

  • What Happens If I Choose Not to Purchase a Laptop Through Wentworth and Instead Bring My Own?

All Wentworth students, including transfers, are required to bring a laptop to ensure a consistent and high-quality academic experience. If a student does not purchase a laptop through Wentworth and brings their own instead, the laptop must meet the required technical specifications for the device referenced above, based on the student’s enrolled major. Bringing a laptop that meets the required specifications is essential to ensure that it is compatible with and can efficiently run the required academic software.

Wentworth recommends that students purchase an extended 4-year warranty from their supplier. The Tech Spot is committed to providing academic software and general consultation to the greatest extent possible. However, their ability to assist with certain issues will be significantly limited, and they will not be able to offer hardware repairs for laptops not purchased through the program.

  • Why Is Apple Not One of the Choices?

Several required academic software packages are incompatible with the Apple OS and would require a dual boot configuration. This would add a layer of complexity for support and negatively impact student experience.

Apple computers are also generally more expensive than Windows computers and would put more of a financial burden on students.

  • How Will Students Know Which Laptop to Purchase?

Wentworth’s Digital Technology Services division has worked with faculty to identify key software and the required computer specifications necessary for success in each major

Wentworth will provide incoming students with this information in Summer and will facilitate access to recommended vendors. This will enable students to purchase laptops at a group rate and select equipment that is configured to work within the minimum required specifications for their major.

  • How Did Wentworth Choose These Particular Brands/ Specifications of Laptops?

Wentworth conducts annual review sessions with academic departments to discuss and agree upon laptop specifications required to support academic software.

We review our vendors’ capability to deliver computers that meet the specifications, and we also review laptop specifications published by our peer schools with similar programs.

All this information is evaluated and analyzed to determine the brands and specifications of laptops that are selected.

  • Will Laptop Specifications Meet a Student’s Academic Needs for All Four Years?

Yes. Each year, DTS works closely with faculty to determine the laptop specifications that will support all four years of the student’s learning experience.

If there are any compatibility issues with academic software found, DTS will work to resolve those.

  • How Soon Do I Need to Order a Laptop to Ensure I Receive It Before the Start of the Fall Semester?

Wentworth recommends ordering laptops as soon as the portal opens to increase the likelihood of receiving the laptop before the start of the Fall semester.

The laptop portal may briefly close between semesters. It reopens at the start of each new term. Students may continue ordering throughout the academic year as long as inventory is available.

  • What if I Purchase a Laptop and End Up Not Coming to Wentworth?

The students are the owners of the laptop and will need to work with the vendor, MicrosNE, on any returns.

If a student has not received their laptop yet, they can contact MicrosNE to cancel the order and receive a refund

If they have received the laptop, MicrosNE has the following policy: "Any item can be returned for a full refund within 30 days of purchase as long as all the original box and packaging is included and the laptop is in original condition."

Want the Best Deal? Don't Wait.
