Wentworth to Explore AI's Impact on Architecture and Design During Boston AI Week
A Boston AI Week event will bring together Wentworth Institute of Technology faculty, alumni, researchers, and industry leaders to examine how artificial intelligence is reshaping architectural education, research, and professional practice.
Artificial intelligence is changing how architects and designers learn, create, and work, and Wentworth will bring voices from across those fields together on Thursday, Oct. 1, to talk about what it means for the profession.
The School of Architecture & Design and the School of Computing & Data Science will host “Architecture & AI: Research, Education, Practice” from 1 to 4 p.m. in Blount Auditorium. The event is part of Boston AI Week, a six-week, statewide festival of events for researchers, educators, businesses, students, and others working with artificial intelligence. This year's festival includes more than 200 events and draws participating organizations from 23 countries.
The afternoon will open with a keynote by Marcelo Coelho, director of the MIT Design Intelligence Lab and a faculty member in MIT's Department of Architecture, where he teaches design studios that combine industrial design, user experience, and artificial intelligence. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Ceremonies, Times Square, and Ars Electronica. The keynote will be followed by a series of rapid-fire, PechaKucha-style presentations.
Wentworth faculty, researchers, alumni, and industry leaders will share how AI is being applied in urbanism, fabrication, visualization, pedagogy, and professional practice. Presenters include Antonio Furgiuele, Memo Ergezer, Tatjana Crossley, Ignacio Cardona, Katarina Richter-Lunn, Emek Erdolu, Caleb Hawkins, Trevor Giangrande, and George Guida.
A moderated roundtable and audience Q&A will follow, with speakers considering the possibilities and challenges AI presents for the field and where it may lead.
The event will close with an informal reception, giving attendees a chance to continue the conversation and connect with presenters.
