Student Financial Services Named a “Trailblazer” at Flywire Fusion Star Awards

Wentworth Institute of Technology’s Student Financial Services office received the Trailblazer Award at the 2026 Fusion Star Awards. The education payments company Flywire presented the award in October at its Flywire Fusion 2026 conference in Austin, Texas. 

The Fusion Star Awards, now in their third year, recognize colleges and universities that have used Flywire’s tools to make paying for college simpler and more affordable for students and families. 

“The Fusion Star Awards celebrate visionary institutions redefining the future of higher education,” said Sharon Butler, Flywire’s co-president of Education, who hosted the awards night. “These trailblazers have gone above and beyond to eliminate friction, drive affordability, and create extraordinary student experiences.” 

Flywire recognized Wentworth for bringing five of its services into a single system: domestic billing, international payments, payment plans, 1098-T tax reporting, and collections. Since Wentworth launched the system, payment plan enrollment has risen 33% year over year, and of 1,861 payment plans activated, 89% have been completed and paid in full. 

Student Financial Services is working on more updates, including electronic refunds and an online eStore, which are now being rolled out.
