President Thompson Announces Athletics Plans for Upcoming Semester
Wentworth Institute of Technology will not compete in traditional athletics programs this fall due to health and safety concerns related to COVID-19.
Wentworth President Mark A. Thompson made the announcement on July 17. The decision comes on the heels of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) officials announcing that they would not be competing in Fall 2020. Thompson extended Wentworth’s plan to also include teams outside of the CCC, including varsity and club sports.
“Wentworth values the importance of varsity athletics and club sports, as we know it enhances the educational experience of our students,” said Thompson in a statement. “We are committed to providing a meaningful athletic experience for all our student-athletes that includes team practices and trainings this fall semester. We will be complying with all relevant safety guidelines and standards, including campus protocols and required on-campus, viral-based COVID-19 testing.”
