Gabriella Rae Photography
For the first time in program history, the Wentworth Men’s Club Hockey team has earned a berth in the ACHA (American College Hockey Association) Division III National Championships, to be held March 18–22 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Competing in the Northeast College Hockey Association (NECHA) Colonial Division, Wentworth finished the regular season with a 13-2-1-1 record, earning the No. 2 seed in the regional tournament and a matchup against No. 3 seed WPI.
Wentworth opened postseason play with a 10–1 win over WPI at Worcester Ice Center, then advanced to face Central Maine Community College at the Keene Ice Center in Keene, New Hampshire. Central Maine entered the game as the No. 1 seed in the Colonial Conference and the No. 5 team in the nation. After falling behind early, the Leopards battled back to take the lead in the third period and earned a 5–3 victory.
In the championship game, Wentworth faced the No. 10-ranked UMass Minutemen. The Leopards carried a 1–0 lead after the first period, then responded to a quick UMass equalizer by scoring two late goals in the second to take a two-goal advantage into intermission. Wentworth pulled away in the third with three straight goals to secure a 6–2 win and the NECHA regional title.
