Wentworth students and faculty introduced 32 Girl Scouts to construction management concepts through a day of hands-on activities, mentorship, and inspiration.

On November 8, the Wentworth Institute of Technology campus was buzzing with a new generation of builders as the Wentworth Construction Management (CM) Club and the university’s Associated General Contractors (AGC) Student Chapter hosted 32 members of the Girl Scouts of Eastern MA (GSEMA).

The event provided a hands-on learning experience designed to help the scouts earn their "Girl Scouts Who Build" patch.

Led by the women of the CM Club, the day's events featured a complete Construction Management curriculum developed entirely by the students. The Girl Scouts were introduced to essential industry topics, including Preconstruction, Estimating, Scheduling, Budgeting, Quality Control, and Heavy/Civil Construction. The scouts also put their new knowledge to the test, participating in a mini build project under the guidance of Wentworth student mentors.

The event highlighted the strong connection between current students and successful alumni. Guest speaker Meredith Borden, BSCM ’23, MSPM ’24, shared her journey from Wentworth and a former Girl Scout to her current role with The Vertex Companies LLC. Borden, a former CM Club President, inspired the scouts with stories of the “cool projects” she has been a part of, offering a clear vision of a future in construction management.

CM Club Advisor Michael J. D'Agostino, MSCM, demonstrated the university’s Augmented Reality Sandbox, allowing the scouts to learn about topography and "generate rain" to observe how water flows through different terrains. The day concluded with a creative LEGO build session and a tour of the Sweeney Programs of Construction Management laboratories and offices.

The event was organized by Wentworth AGC Student Chapter Vice President Kiera Dempsey and supported by a dedicated team of CM Club Officers and Members, including Vice Presidents Melanie Chaves, Isobella Gillis, and Adriana DiMeo; Director Mia Zoghbi; and members Delhery Diaz, Mya DeAngelis, Felicity Gonzalez, Jess Fermin, and Kiele Sarnie.
