Wentworth Institute of Technology’s RAMP program is underway with 39 students from Boston schools taking part this year.

This week, students have been spending time in the Makerspace area of the Center for Engineering, Innovation and Sciences, as well as under a tent on Wentworth’s Quad. The latter group took part in a small engine clinic facilitated by Mechanical Engineering Lab Supervisor Herb Connors.

“Students are given directions to take apart the engine, put it back together, then test if it can run successfully. It’s a hands-on module that provides a low-risk opportunity to fail and try again,” said Rebecca Drossman, associate director of college access for the Center for Community and Learning Partnerships (CLP).

Now in its 11th year, RAMP is a six-week program offered to Boston residents who will be attending Wentworth as first-time students in the fall. Participants are given a stipend and work with peer mentors on projects with real companies and organizations. The CLP facilitates the program, which will conclude on August 13.
