AI in Architecture Takes Center Stage at Wentworth-Hosted ACSA Conference

Wentworth Institute of Technology recently became a hub for the conversation around artificial intelligence in architecture, successfully hosting the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) 2025 Intersections Research Conference.  

The timely event convened leading scholars, practitioners, and students to share innovative research, projects, and dialogue that are defining the path forward for AI technologies in design. 

The conference, titled "AI DESIGN PRACTICES," was co-chaired by Wentworth Professors Tatjana Crossley and Antonio Furgiuele. The two curated a program designed to foster a rich and critical examination of the multifaceted relationship between AI, design, and the built environment. 

The experience extended beyond traditional panels and discussions. Prior to the main conference, attendees had the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops with the AI-powered design platforms Figura and Autodesk Forma. Participants also explored the region’s architectural landmarks through organized site visits, including tours of MIT, Harvard University, and the City of Boston. 

The main conference kicked off with an insightful opening keynote by Antoine Picon, a leading professor in the history of architecture and technology from Harvard GSD. The schedule featured two powerful roundtable discussions: a Friday session on "AI Computational Creativity & Pedagogy" and a Saturday session on "AI Practices & Methods," which brought together prominent experts from a range of institutions. 

Throughout the three-day event, Casella Gallery featured an exhibit of innovative posters from educators, practitioners, and students, offering a visual dive into the latest AI-related research. The conference programming concluded on Saturday evening with a final keynote address in Watson Hall by Kent Larson, director of the City Science research group at the MIT Media Lab.
