Common Data Set
The Common Data Set (CDS) is a data set that has been created by the higher education community to improve the quality of information that is circulated to those involved in a student’s transition into higher education. Contained in the report is an agreed upon and widely used set of questions about enrollment, admissions, academic programs, student life, annual expenses, and graduation. Each fall the Common Data Set is created and is widely reported to organization such as U.S. News & World Report, the College Board, and Peterson’s.
The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) requires institutions to provide publicly available statistics and metrics, most of which are satisfied by information contained in the Common Data Set (CDS). Below is a summery of these metrics.
