Major Exploration at Wentworth
No Pressure, Just Possibilities
Wentworth is built for students who want a practical education, and room to explore. You’ll learn in labs, studios, and project spaces, then test your skills in the real world through co-op. Wentworth’s model includes two fulltime, typically paid co-ops built into your degree, and more than half of students are hired by a co-op employer when they graduate.
At Wentworth, “undecided” isn’t a problem to solve. It’s a starting point. You’ll learn by doing, try real tools, and see what clicks. And if your direction changes? That’s normal.
What are you interested in?
Computing
Tech, Systems, and the Logic Behind Things
If you like solving puzzles, spotting patterns, or figuring out how systems work, computing opens doors everywhere— healthcare, finance, design, construction, sustainability, and more. You can explore everything from networks and cybersecurity to data science and AI.
Boston runs on code, whether in hospitals, banks, defense labs, and startups. Wentworth computing students work on live systems and real datasets from their first year, then take that experience into co-ops at the companies running them.
Design & Building
I like to design physical products, shape interior spaces, and make buildings real.
Some people think in sketches. Others think in physical products, human environments, structures, and systems. Whether you want to design the shoes a person wears, the room they live in, or the city they navigate, Wentworth is a place where ideas become reality.
Build in a city that’s always under construction. Boston’s Seaport, Fenway, and East Boston are constantly evolving. Wentworth students help shape them through co-ops, studio projects, and site visits.
Sustainability & Health
I care about climate, health, and creating a better future for people and the planet.
Climate. Health. Energy. Cities that work for everyone. These aren’t far-off problems—they’re the work of your generation, and they need engineers, scientists, designers, and builders who care. At Wentworth, you can come at them from every angle: the lab bench, the hospital, the building site, or the city itself.
Programs like Climate Resilience can use the city as an “urban lab.” And programs in Biological and Biomedical Engineering put you inside one of the world’s biggest medical research communities. Wentworth also sits a short walk from the Longwood Medical Area, the world's largest concentration of hospitals and research institutions.
Engineering & Sciences
I love figuring out how things work - robots, machines, math, physics.
Some people want to know how the machine works...and then they want to build a better one. Engineering and the Sciences at Wentworth are where you go deep: into robots, into circuits, into the math and physics behind everything that moves, lifts, computes, or flies. You’ll work in real labs, with faculty who often come from industry, on problems that don’t have answers in the back of the book.
Wentworth's engineering and sciences programs are project-based from your first semester. You'll design and build in our labs, run your own experiments, and put that experience to work in two full co-ops.
Exploratory Tracks
I want options, and time to choose.
Choosing a major and career path can be overwhelming. If you are interested in getting a degree from Wentworth, but aren't sure which major fits you, we welcome you to enter into a first year exploratory track.
All exploratory tracks are designed to make sure you can explore your interests and still graduate on time within the school that hosts the track.
