Wentworth's New AI Major Featured on WBZ-TV

WBZ-TV visited campus this week to report on Wentworth's new Applied AI major, which launched at the start of the semester.

The degree spans computing, life sciences, construction management, architecture, and cybersecurity, giving students depth in a chosen field alongside fluency in AI. Every student takes a required course on the responsible application of generative AI, plus coursework in AI ethics. Professor Mehmet Ergezer, who helped create the program, told WBZ that learning to evaluate what these tools produce is becoming an essential skill in its own right.

"The buzz is enormous," said Mike Farmer, dean of the School of Computing and Data Science, who described the degree as a blend where students go deep into the discipline they care about while building real command of AI.

Junior Guru Naikar, who had already taken two AI courses at Wentworth before the major launched, told the station that students who aren't working to understand AI now will find it hard to catch up.
