Student Williams Becomes Official Photographer for Boston Portraits of Pride
Marcia Williams, a Business Management senior, is set to graduate with more than just a degree.
Williams achieved a significant milestone by becoming one of the official photographers for this year’s Boston Portraits of Pride exhibition, a prestigious public art show that features portraits of LGBTQ+ leaders who have made substantial contributions to the community through their work, advocacy, and commitment to equality. Unveiled in the Seaport on June 1, 2024, Williams appeared on CBS News Boston to promote the exhibition and discuss what the opportunity meant to her.
Williams' love for photography began at a young age and, during her time at Wentworth, has evolved into a professional pursuit. Through her business, PhotosbyMarcia, she has built a substantial client base, specializing in event and portrait photography. Her long-term vision extends beyond her current work though, where she dreams of creating a physical space where creatives can collaborate, learn, and grow artistically while learning more about what it takes to run a successful business.
Part of Williams’ success can be tied to her participation in the Accelerate Co-op for Entrepreneurs (ACE) program at Wentworth, allowing her to spend two semesters fully dedicated to developing her photography business while getting paid. The ACE program, designed to foster entrepreneurship and innovation during Wentworth student's co-op semesters, provided Williams with the financial resources, business knowledge, and mentorship necessary to turn her passion into a growing enterprise.
Reflecting on her experience in the program, Williams said, “The ACE experience prepared me to get into new spaces and surround myself with creative individuals and entrepreneurs. Being pushed to develop my business and networking skills allowed me to cultivate the relationships and visibility I needed to be invited to photograph this exhibition.”
As Williams prepares to graduate, her story illustrates the power of combining passion with education and the importance of supportive programs like ACE in helping young entrepreneurs turn their ideas into reality.
