Xiu Zhai

Bio
Xiu Zhai is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Wentworth Institute of Technology. She received her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Connecticut in 2017. Her graduate work focused on the analysis and computational modeling of saccadic eye movements triggered by visual and auditory stimuli.
Prior to joining Wentworth in 2022, Dr. Zhai worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UConn. Her postdoctoral work was centered on using neurophysiological, psychophysical and computational approaches to study the neural coding and perception of everyday acoustic stimuli and to investigate how they are affected by hearing impairment, aiming to help people with hearing loss.
Dr. Zhai’s current research interests include neural signal processing and auditory perception with applications in assistive technology, and a strong emphasis on engineering education in biomedical electronics and instrumentation.
