Sedef Doganer
Bio
Dr. Sedef Doganer joined Wentworth Institute of Technology in September 2021 as Dean of the School of Architecture and Design. Prior to her appointment at Wentworth, she served as a professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio (2008–2021), where she also held leadership roles as Department Chair and Associate Dean for Design, Inclusion, and Engaged Scholarship.
Dr. Doganer’s scholarly work focuses on the intersection of architecture and tourism, with particular emphasis on heritage tourism, historic preservation, cultural heritage management, and the sustainable development of community-based tourism. Her notable projects include an assessment of San Antonio’s heritage resources and an analysis of the heritage tourism potential of the San Antonio Missions, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2023, her multidisciplinary project, Historic Houses of Worship and Disaster Aftermath: A Toolkit to Increase Resilience, sponsored by the Texas Historical Commission, received the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation National Preservation Award.
She is currently a member of the ICOMOS International Cultural Tourism Committee and serves on the boards of Docomomo/NE and ACE Boston.
Dr. Doganer holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in architecture from Istanbul Technical University and is a registered architect in Turkey.
