Department of Defense (DoD) Tuition Assistance Information

Servicemembers must obtain Tuition Assistance Approval before the start of the semester and through their branch of service. Servicemembers should consult with their Education Service Office to begin this process.

Tuition Assistance benefits are administered by each branch of service, which may have their own specific policies on who is eligible and how it may be used. Service-specific tuition assistance information can be found on these pages: 

Department of Defense (DoD)- Tuition Assistance Refund

If a service member withdraws on or before the 60 percent portion of the term, the service member will no longer be eligible for the full amount of Military TA funds originally awarded. To comply with the policy of the Department of Defense, WIT will return any unearned Military TA funds on a proportional basis through at least the 60 percent portion of the term for which they were provided. Refunds are returned to the DoD/Branch of Service payer.

  • Week 1 – 100%
  • Week 2 – 87%
  • Week 3 – 80%
  • Week 4 – 74%
  • Week 5 – 67%
  • Week 6 – 60%
  • Week 7 – 54%
  • Week 8 – 50%
  • Week 9 – 47% (60% course completion)
  • Week 10 and later – No return

Seven-Week Courses

  • Week 1 – 100%
  • Week 2 – 72%
  • Week 3 – 58%
  • Week 4 – 43% (60% course completion at week 4.2)
  • Week 5-7 – No return
