A Note from Thaddeus Guldbrandsen, Dean of the Wentworth School of Sciences and Humanities

A student in the Climate Resilience program conducts an experiment in Boston's Muddy River
Dear Friends,
As we begin a new academic year, I am pleased to share some reflections from the 2024-25 school year at the School of Sciences and Humanities, one of the many places where Wentworth students are preparing for meaningful, future-focused careers.
Many of our faculty have embraced the challenges of generative AI, not just as a technological shift, but as an educational opportunity. Employers have told us they need graduates who can use these tools ethically, responsibly, and reliably. Across our curriculum, students are learning to do exactly that through project-based assignments, thoughtful discussion, and real-world applications.
Wentworth’s commitment to experiential learning remains strong. In our school, that includes field-based climate resilience work in Boston neighborhoods, water quality testing on the Muddy River, and chemistry labs exploring sustainable energy solutions. Faculty members are designing hands-on, immersive learning experiences that connect classroom content with the world students will enter after graduation.
This coming fall, we will have launched two new majors: one in Climate Resilience and one in Physics. Both programs reflect our strengths in applied science, our emphasis on science-based innovation, and our commitment to preparing students for emerging careers in the region and beyond.
Several of our faculty have secured new research grants, revitalized laboratories, and introduced creative approaches to foundational courses in writing, history, economics, physics, anatomy, and other courses at the heart of the Wentworth experience. These efforts support one goal: helping Wentworth students thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Looking ahead, we are working to make our operations even more effective, student-centered, and collaborative. Inspired by President Thompson’s call for operational effectiveness, we remain focused on delivering an exceptional educational experience while building strong partnerships across the university and within the broader community.
To our alumni and community partners, thank you for your continued belief in Wentworth and our mission. We are proud of what we have accomplished this year, and we are excited for what comes next.
Sincerely,
Thaddeus Guldbrandsen, Ph.D.
