Mira Yun
What courses do you teach?
I teach Wireless Networks, Advanced Wireless Networks, Medical Device Networking, CS1, Introduction to Networks, Network Programming, ITPM and Senior Project.
How have your interests, research, or experience led you to your field?
When I first learned about wireless communication as sending data through the air, it reminded me of the theoretical idea of teleportation through which materials can be sent from one place to the other in an instant. It was such a fascinating concept at first, and as I understood more about it, I came to realize how it is already affecting all aspects of our daily lives. It has been almost two decades now that I have been researching the field and it still amazes me how these invisible activities silently help and support our lives, as well as lead us into a better future.
Why are you proud to be a woman in 2021?
I'm proud to be a woman in 2021 because we are a community of compassionate, caring and loving people.
Describe one exciting thing that is happening in your classroom.
A Cyber Security freshman is currently taking my Wireless Networks course, which is a requirement for Computer Networking sophomores. Although it is not a requirement for him, he has shown great interest in the subject and has actively sought out opportunities to participate in research. It is my great pleasure to witness the excitement in the student's eyes and to feel that we share the joy of exploring the field.
What is one interesting fact about you?
I am fearful of the things that I come across without preparation. I tend to study, work, and research when I face my fear because you cannot be prepared for everything. It momentarily distracts me from the fear that I feel, but more importantly, I think it is how I prepare myself for the next step.
