Document Authentication & Apostille

Apostille and Notary Requests require a minimum of 10 days to process. No walk-in or deviations from the required lead time will be honored.

Alumni who plan to work abroad, apply for visas, or return to their home country may be required to produce documentation certifying the degree(s) or diploma(s) earned at Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Registrar’s Office can provide a letter of Degree or Diploma Authentication.  In some cases, alumni may request an apostille that requires the documents, such as a transcript or diploma, to be authenticated by a designated governmental authority.  In this case, the authentication takes the form of a certification called an “apostille”, as approved by the Hague Convention.  To accomplish this, the signature of the Registrar is validated by a Notary Public; this serves to authenticate the authority of Wentworth to produce such documents and to perform their duties.  This service requires a minimum of 10 business days from the date of the request.  We cannot honor Notary and Apostille walk-in requests.

Degree/Diploma Authentication

Apostille and Notary Requests require a minimum of 10 days to process. No walk-in or deviations from the required lead time will be honored

The Letter of Degree/Diploma Authentication contains the following information:

  • the degree recipient's name
  • the degree(s) earned
  • the date(s) of degree confirmation
  • the official signature of the University Registrar
  • the statement that Wentworth Institute of Technology considers the document to carry weight equal to that of an actual diploma
  • notarization by a Notary Public with an active commission from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Once this process is completed, the document(s) are returned to the requestor or the requestor's personal designee.

You may request this letter by email to registrar@wit.edu. At a minimum, your request must include your name, the year you graduated from Wentworth, and the address to which you would like the letter sent. Please allow 10 business days to fulfill your request.

If you are required to produce a notarized official transcript, please complete the transcript request through www.getmytranscript.com and make a note that the transcript needs to be notarized. Please allow 10 business days to fulfill your request.

If you are required to produce a notarized copy of your diploma, there are two options:

  1. You may attach a scanned copy of your diploma to your request.
  2. Request a duplicate diploma by completing the Duplicate Diploma Request Form.  Please allow four to six weeks for the request to be processed.

Apostille

Apostille and Notary Requests require a minimum of 10 days to process. No walk-in or deviations from the required lead time will be honored.

Some receiving countries may require an apostille in addition to the documents provided by Wentworth. It is the responsibility of the requestor to determine if an apostille is necessary and determine the best way to have an apostille produced. The Massachusetts Secretary of State can produce apostilles, as can district courts. Please refer to this page for a full list of US authorities authorized to issue apostilles. We are unable to submit documentation on your behalf.

More information on apostilles and the apostille process can be found on the Hague Convention website as well as the website for the US Department of State Office of Authentications.
