Lora Kim

Bio
Lora Kim, Associate Professor and a LEED-certified Registered Architect, earned an M.Arch from MIT and a BA in Architecture with a minor in Art History from the University of California at Berkeley. She has been teaching courses in undergraduate architecture foundation studios, digital media seminars, and graduate theses. Her teaching and scholarship focus on beginning design pedagogy, design representation, experiential approaches to design, and the intersections between art and architecture. Most recent publications include: “Centering Deaf Experience: Experiencing Interdisciplinary Exploration and Invention Inspired by DeafSpace Guidelines in Architecture and Interior Design”, “Shifting the Architectural Body: Designing Sensory Ecologies Across Scales”, “Establishing Tectonic Reasoning in Foundation Design: Local Craft, Global Responsibility”, and “Storytelling in Foundation Design.”
In addition, Lora has helped develop several programs: summerFAB, a summer design-build program for high school students; IPAL at Wentworth, offering an integrated and accelerated path to architectural licensure; and Wentworth in New Orleans design-build service learning projects, taking students to NOLA to build an environmental center. She also organizes the annual M.Arch Thesis Fall Conference; co-chairs the annual awards committee for the architecture program; and has been co-editor of the Making Masters publications.
She has also served on peer-review committees for ECAADE, ARCC, CAADRIA, EAEA, DCA, BSA Grant Reviews, ACSA, and NCBDS conferences. She has been an invited critic at various institutions, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard Graduate School of Design, Boston Architectural Center, Northeastern University, Norwich University, Rhode Island School of Design, Roger Williams University, and the University of California at Berkeley.
