Mighty Well Apparel CEO to be Women@Wentworth Keynote Speaker
Emily Levy, CEO and co-founder of wellness wear company Mighty Well, will be the keynote speaker for the 14th annual Women@Wentworth event on March 27.
Levy is an award-winning social impact entrepreneur and patient advocate. Her company creates innovative medical wearables and focuses on apparel inclusivity for those living with chronic illness and disability. She was an executive in residence in Wentworth’s Accelerate program.

Concrete makes up many things that we use in our day-to-day lives. Streets, sidewalks, buildings… and canoes?
Held every April, the concrete canoe competition pits schools against each other in a boat race, but as the name denotes, this is not your average race. Students in the Wentworth chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers calculate the proper materials and numbers that they will need to create a mold before pouring the canoe.
Wentworth Professor Discusses Women’s Voting Rights at Pennsylvania College
Allison Lange, assistant professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, presented “Images and the Fight for Women’s Voting Rights in the United States” to students at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Penn. on Jan. 23.
The visit kicked off Muhlenberg’s history lecture series, “A Century of Struggle: Women’s Rights Before and After Suffrage.”
Wentworth Women Meet Industry Professionals at Construction Management Speed Networking Event
On Wednesday, January 22, the Wentworth Construction Management Club (CM Club) held a networking event geared towards women who are currently pursuing a degree related to the built environment and/or Construction Management. The event was organized in part by Shawmut Design and Construction alongside the WIT CM Club student board.
The event invited women professionals onto campus to engage with current students and provide insight into the available career paths for CM professionals and day-to-day activities of various positions.

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh visited Wentworth’s campus Thursday morning to meet with university officials—including President Mark A. Thompson—and students taking part in the Supported Training to Reach Independence through Vocational Experiences (STRIVE) program.
Fire Protection Technology Professional Certificate Program Announced
Wentworth announced the creation of a new Fire Protection Technology professional certificate program to meet the increasing demand for qualified fire protection specialists.
Innovative architectural designs, complex engineering systems and modern construction methods now require sophisticated knowledge of building operations and state-of-the-art technology. Architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) professionals are especially being called upon to know more about building systems and infrastructure.
Boston Mayor Walsh to Visit Students in Wentworth Training Program
Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, Wentworth President Mark A. Thompson and others will tour the STRIVE Wentworth recycling base in the Annex Building on campus, 550 Parker Street, Boston; then the facilities maintenance operation at 610 Huntington Ave. The visit is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 16.

For 2020, Wentworth Institute of Technology’s Design Program has been ranked #2 out of 10 colleges in Massachusetts by College Factual, placing the design program at the university in the top 15% of all like programs in the state. Wentworth has attained this #2 ranking two years in a row.

Historians have long known that Dorchester natives fought for the Union during the American Civil War. But less was known about where and when exactly they fought until a group of Wentworth students led by Associate Professor Ella Howard began their research.

Co-op Plays Key Role for Software Company AVTECH’s Top Product
Before or after every meeting with software engineers and managers at AVTECH, Jade Aboud Siriani would conduct further research to help himself catch up with the discussion.
“I have to understand all aspects of the communication, the coding and all the details,” he says. “I know the company’s number-one product relies on my work.”
Siriani is a junior in the Computer Engineering program. AVTECH produces environment monitors protecting areas like computer rooms, data centers and warehouses from the fluctuation of temperature and humidity.
Student Leader Working to Help Improve Inclusiveness on Campus
During the National Conference on Student Leadership in Orlando this November, Wentworth senior Jasmine Andrade spoke of her experience leading multiple student organizations as a voice of underrepresented students.
An Interdisciplinary Engineering student, Andrade is the co-founder of Wentworth’s Cape Verdean Student Association. She was formerly the vice president of the Multicultural Student Association and a collegiate member of the National Society of Black Engineers.

Allison Lange, a Wentworth Institute of Technology assistant professor and leading expert on the suffrage movement and 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, appears in a new PBS film chronicling Wyoming’s place as the first state to provide women access to the vote.

Hockey Claims PAL Stovepipe Tournament Crown
Tournament most valuable player senior Georgy Gorodetsky assisted on a pair of goals and 11 other skaters recorded at least one point as the Wentworth Institute of Technology ice hockey team captured the Manchester PAL/Stovepipe Tournament title with a 6-1 win over SUNY Morrisville.

Wentworth to Open at 11:00am on Tuesday, Dec. 3
Wentworth Institute of Technology will open at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3 due to inclement weather.

Mechanical Engineering Student Troubleshoots for Tesla on Co-op
Jakub Bzura looks at a Tesla on the road a little differently than most.
“My instinct is to check the panel gaps and look for serial numbers to see if I remember any of them,” he says.
Bzura, a senior Mechanical Engineering student, conducted his first co-op with Tesla in Fremont, California this past spring and he is currently on his second co-op at the Tesla in Reno, Nevada.
As a quality engineer in Fremont, Bzura was asked to find, analyze, and reduce the deviations of different parts of a car that might significantly influence the assembly.

Video games have been a part of the mainstream culture for some time, with even sports network ESPN broadcasting competitive gaming competitions. But gaming is increasingly finding a home within the higher education, used as a teaching tool within the classroom.
Interior Design Dept. Awarded ‘Best School Entry’ by IIDA
Wentworth’s Department of Interior Design won the “Best School Entry” at the 2019 International Interior Design Association (IIDA) New England Fashion Show.
Students created a costume design utilizing interior materials in an effort to demonstrate creativity and craftsmanship.
IIDA has more than 12,000 Members in nine specialty Forums in 30 Chapters around the world. The event is one of the largest interior design competitions for design firms and schools in New England. More than 800 people were in attendance.
