Students Raise More Than $3,000 for Wentworth’s Food Pantry in Partnership with YMCA

Wentworth's Project Management Seminar Class, led by students Paige Taylor and Jade Iadarola, raised over $3,000 for the Wentworth Food Pantry. The fundraising effort came about after Professor Cindy Stevens initiated a partnership with Karibe Ibeh, director of food and nutrition services for YMCA of Greater Boston.

This semester-long project consisted of two aspects: one half was a fundraiser for the YMCA Food Insecurity project, which helps secure food for families in need. The other was a research-based awareness campaign that explores the current knowledge of college students about food insecurity. From the information gathered, the class goal was to find ways to create more awareness on Wentworth’s campus.

The class was split into five groups with each team conducting their own small fundraiser to create both awareness on campus and raise funds for the YMCA. Each student had individual fundraising responsibilities of $100 that were assigned at the start of the project.

Multiple in-person fundraisers were planned with a goal of raising $2,500 total. However, when COVID-19 cut short on-campus learning, the class quickly came up with alternatives to help reach their goal. Their solution: A Facebook fundraiser.

By partnering with the Introduction to Project Management Class (also taught by Professor Stevens) and Wentworth’s Student Association of Management club, they raised more than $3,000. This money was then donated back to Wentworth’s Food Pantry by the YMCA Food Insecurity Fund to help the Wentworth community.
