The latest issue of the TAD Journal, titled "Tectonics," explores the intersection of structure and construction in the age of digital fabrication and emerging materials. Guest-edited by Wentworth Institute of Technology Professor Anne-Catrin Schultz, the issue features research from around the world that challenges traditional understandings of tectonics.

"Digital fabrication methods result in revised understandings of materiality and structural textures expected by traditional craftsmanship or industrialized production," Schultz said. "These emerging tools lead to specific geometries and narratives – their reading needs to be better understood."

The issue includes articles on a wide range of topics, from the use of biomaterials in construction to the role of architectural kinetics in the built environment. It also features a special section on the impact of climate change on tectonics.

"The Tectonics issue investigates the diverse technological, cultural, economic, and ecological imperatives of our times," Schultz said. "It provides a much-needed forum for discussion and debate about the future of architecture and construction."

The TAD Journal is an international journal dedicated to the field of building technology and its impact on architecture and design. It is published by the Facade Tectonics Institute, a non-profit organization that promotes research and education in the field of building technology.

The "Tectonics" issue is available now in print and online. For more information, visit the TAD Journal website. You may also read Catrin’s editorial, “Architectural Tectonics in the Age of Climate Crisis, Social Change and Digital Fabrication,” at Taylor & Francis Online.
