Matt Gruber has been named Senior Vice President, Finance & Administration for Wentworth Institute of Technology. He will serve on the university’s Executive Council and will oversee the following functions: Business, Finance, Human Resources, Legal & Risk Management, Police, and Technology Services.

Gruber comes to Wentworth with decades of experience in senior finance and administrative roles across higher education and industry. Currently, he is Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Sagamore Capital Management, where he is responsible for oversight and management of all administrative functions (including real estate, facilities, finance, treasury, risk, tax, internal controls, legal, human resources, information technology and capital markets) for all of the firm’s portfolio companies and investments.

Prior to Sagamore, Gruber served in a variety of leadership roles at Harvard University over more than a dozen years, including Dean for Administration and Associate Dean & Chief Financial Officer at Harvard Law School, and director of Budget & Financial Planning at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He also brings experience working for the City of Boston and the National Treasury Employees Union. Gruber earned his JD from American University’s Washington College of Law and his BA from Boston College.

“With his broad experience, consultative and empathetic approach, and bias toward action, Matt was the clear choice for this role,” said Wentworth President Mark A. Thompson. “He is excited to return to the higher education sector and is looking forward to building on our strengths and tackling our challenges.”

Gruber starts on October 15.
