Two Wentworth Institute of Technology partnerships with local high schools have been officially designated as Early College programs by the Baker-Polito administration.

Wentworth has partnered with New Mission High School in Boston’s Hyde Park neighborhood and Fenway High School on Alleghany Street as part of the university’s BEACON Pathways initiative. BEACON, which falls under the umbrella of Wentworth’s Center for Community & Learning Partnerships, aims to provide equitable education opportunities for underserved youth.

The high schools join eight in total earning official Early College status from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Department of Higher Education.

“Successful Early College programs create a coherent course of study that can change the trajectory of a student’s life,” said Education Secretary James Peyser in a Fall River Reporter article. “By designating these Early College programs, we are creating a shift in the educational experience for thousands of students.”

The Fenway and New Mission designations are the latest for Wentworth after Dearborn STEM Academy earned Early College designation in 2021.

Fenway High School  aims to create a socially committed and morally responsible community of learners that values its students as individuals. Fenway’s goal is to encourage academic excellence and to develop intellectual habits of mind, self-esteem, and leadership skills among all students. In collaboration with Fenway, Wentworth is building an Early College and Innovation Pathway model called Entrepreneurship for Good with a focus on socially responsible creativity.

New Mission High School  students graduate with the 21st century skills required for college and career success, prepared to serve as thoughtful, engaged citizens, who contribute to the health, vibrancy and development of their community. In collaboration with NMHS, Wentworth is building an Early College and Innovation Pathway models in Computer Science and Engineering.
