On August 20, Wentworth Institute of Technology will welcome a group of extraordinarily successful entrepreneurs as commencement keynote speakers, including a husband-and-wife duo committed to supporting education, as well as an individual who has invested in more than 100 startups.

Mark Bamforth and Morag Bamforth – 9 am Speakers

The university’s morning ceremony will feature—for the first time—dual keynote speakers with Morag Bamforth and Mark Bamforth.

Morag Bamforth was born in Ayr, Scotland. She lived in various towns around her home country before moving to Glasgow at the age of 14. It was in Glasgow that she met her future husband, Mark, in her physics class.

After completing a degree in accountancy, Morag pursued a career in personal tax client service and went on to develop and deliver personal tax training courses. She then became the board chair of a group tasked with establishing a new primary school in Kent, England.

Upon moving to Massachusetts, she deepened her involvement in education, especially in supporting her son with dyslexia, becoming a Board member of Carroll School in Lincoln, Mass. Morag then established her own business developing homes in Cambridge, Mass. with an eye for practical design. Today, she is a trustee of the family foundation, encouraging others to overcome barriers and to seek opportunities and education for personal growth.

Mark Bamforth was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland. After meeting Morag in his high school physics class, he studied chemical engineering at Strathclyde University, Glasgow and pursued a career in the oil industry only to see that cut short by a collapse in the oil price. He then moved to a brewing company before discovering the biotech industry where he has been for the last 35 years.

Twenty-two of those biotech years were at a Massachusetts-based company, first in the UK, when he also completed an MBA which accelerated his career in management, before moving with his family to Massachusetts in 2000 to run global manufacturing. After that, he spent 12 years founding and building three contract manufacturing businesses.

Today, Mark invests in and supports entrepreneurs in the life sciences industry and is a family foundation trustee.
