Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance to the Wentworth Institute of Technology (university) community related to the parking requirements, regulations, and enforcement measures on campus.
Scope/Availability
This policy applies to all faculty, staff, students, contractors, and guests of Wentworth Institute of Technology who drive and park vehicles on university property.
All vehicles parking on university property must abide by this policy.

Policy
Wentworth Institute of Technology attempts to provide parking for convenience but recognizes that limitations and control must be implemented to provide for maximum usage of the parking spots on campus property, and to avoid abuse or disregard by persons parking vehicles on campus. Wentworth Institute of Technology parking passes are available for purchase to faculty, staff, students, and visitors wishing to park a vehicle on campus property.
All members of the university community, including students, faculty, staff, staff of affiliated organizations, vendors, and contractors, are required to display a valid university-issued parking permit on their vehicle when parking in a campus parking lot. The university reserves the right to determine eligibility to park on campus for all groups or individuals and may restrict certain groups from using campus parking facilities. Once on campus, individuals operating a vehicle or parking a vehicle must observe all university parking rules and regulations. Additionally, the university reserves the right to remove and impound any abandoned motor vehicle, any vehicle without a license plate, or any vehicle parking in such a way as to constitute a serious hazard to vehicles or pedestrians’ traffic or to the movement and operation of emergency equipment.
Definitions
- Motor Vehicle: Automobiles, buses, trucks, motorcycles, motorbikes, motor scooters, and mopeds.
- Parking Permit: Any hangtag, decal, or emblem authorized or issued by the Wentworth Police Department to allow a user to park with the Wentworth Institute of Technology parking lots.
- Parking Zone: Refers to a series of parking lots in which a particular permit is valid.
- University property: All properties under the control of and jurisdiction of Wentworth Institute of Technology.
- EV-Only Level 2 Charging: Restricted to actively charging vehicles, with a limit of 4 hours.
- EV-Preferred Level 2 Charging: Available to actively charging vehicles, but also open to non-EV parking if all other spaces are occupied.
- EV-Only Level 3 Charging: Restricted to actively charging vehicles, with a limit of 1 hour.
Procedures
Application for Reasonable Accommodations
Students with physical/medical diagnosis requesting alternative parking arrangements
- Applications must be submitted through Student Accessibility Services
- Student Accessibility Services will review the application and approve an exemption. Exemptions will be forwarded to the Parking Office for arrangement.
- Exemptions shall be valid for an entire academic semester.
Employees with physical/medical diagnosis requesting alternative parking arrangements
- Applications must be submitted to the Executive Director of Equity and Compliance
- Executive Director of Equity and Compliance will review the application and approve an exemption. Exemptions will be forwarded to the Parking Office for arrangement.
- Exemptions shall be valid for the length of the impairment.
Additional accommodations
- May be approved on a case-by-case basis.
- Reviewed by the Parking Office
- Valid for a length of time determined at time of application.
Application for Parking
Students
- All students who wish to purchase a parking permit shall complete and sign a parking application each semester.
- Upon allocation of a parking permit, the signed application shall become the parking contact.
- All parking permits shall be valid for the duration of the academic semester.
Employees
- All employees who wish to purchase a parking permit shall complete and sign a parking application each year.
- Upon allocation of a parking permit, the signed application shall become the parking contact.
- Normally, all parking permits shall be valid for the period of January 1st to December 31st of the given year.
Special Parking Arrangements
- Special parking arrangements can be made through the Parking Office.
- Limited visitor parking may be available with arrangements with the Wentworth Police Department or the Parking Office.
- Other parking arrangements may be made from time to time through the Parking Office.
- Legally issued and valid handicap placards and license plates are required for vehicles to legally park in campus handicapped spaces. Wentworth will not issue “temporary handicapped” permits.
Use of Parking Passes
- Parking passes are not transferable.
- An authorized parking permit must be displayed, totally unobstructed as per instructions, when parking in designated university parking areas.
- There must only be one vehicle per authorized parker parked in a university – allocated parking lot at any given time.
- There is very limited parking available on campus for visitors. Visitors may be advised to park in other area public lots.
- Any change in vehicle or license number must be reported to the Parking Office as quickly as possible. Parking passes can only be transferred to another vehicle through the Parking Office.
Use of Parking Lots
- The university does not guarantee the availability of parking space at any time nor the location of available parking spaces.
- Except in the case of an emergency, maintenance and repairs to vehicles on university property is not permitted. All waste materials must be promptly removed from university property.
- The Parking Office may, on occasion, need to close a parking area or roadway for a special event, safety reasons, or repair. The university community will be informed when changes occur with as much notice as possible.
Apportionment of costs, Responsibilities, and Enforcement
- The university will annually set a fee for the use of parking spaces.
- The Wentworth Police Department is responsible for enforcement of parking rules and regulations.
- The Parking Office reserves the right to modify parking rules or regulations as needed, to change the allocation of parking spaces when necessary, and to make exceptions if appropriate.
- Abuse of any of the parking regulations outlined may result in loss of parking privileges, and/or prompt removal of the vehicle by the university’s designated towing company.
- The university is not responsible for loss of or damage to vehicles or contents.
Electric Vehicles
- Upon enrolling in this EV charging program, users must collect their EV hang tag from Wentworth Police, and appropriately display the hangtag on the rearview mirror. Failure to do so will result in termination of the user’s EV charging program enrollment.
- The user must pay-per-use for the charging station. The current fee structure is available on Wentworth’s parking registration and fees website.
- The user shall neatly replace the charging cords when finished.
- The user may not unplug another vehicle from a charging station.

This policy was drafted by representatives from the Wentworth Police Department, the Dean of Students Office, and Human Resources. It was reviewed by Cabinet and approved by the President on May 31, 2023.
This policy replaces Subsection 16 of the Student Code of Conduct.
