ASEE 2022: Welcome from Professor Anuja Kamat

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the organization and technical committees, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2022 Annual Conference Northeast Section (ASEE-NE) at Wentworth Institute of Technology on April 22nd – 23rd, 2022.

The theme of the conference is “Inclusive Excellence and Student Success in Engineering Education”. We define inclusive excellence as actively and intentionally cultivating a diverse and culturally competent institution where each member has the opportunity and support to reach their full potential and make contributions to our campus community and beyond. Another focus of this conference is on student success which is about not only students’ persistence, performance, and degree completion but also preparing engineering students for the future of the work and the world that will demand more complex problem solvers.

We look forward to a rich program, and many presentations on the cutting-edge of research within various engineering disciplines. Topics to be covered through the various conference tracks include but are not limited to: DE+I Pipeline for engineering / STEM, success of diverse, underrepresented populations in engineering, the (new) best practices in online/hybrid learning, Innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability in engineering education, first year engineering and allied engineering including math, energy and humanities, education, and technical research papers and many more.

We cordially invite you to submit abstracts in the professional paper track for presentation and publication in the proceedings of the conference or extended abstracts for presentation only. We would also like to request you to encourage your graduate and undergraduate students to submit papers or posters in the areas of technical research, educational research, capstone projects or other projects to our conference.

There will be multiple awards for Best Paper (professional) and for Best Paper DEI. These winners will advance to the National Competition. There will also be three Best student paper (financial award) and three Best student posters (financial awards).

The conference will also include workshops and panels on a variety of topics. As an example, one special workshop will be on DE+I titled, “Equity minded Educators Impact Student Success” that will encourage the adoption of tools used in the classroom or laboratory with the purpose of increasing successful learning experiences.

In addition to the conference,  we will be hosting a pre-conference workshop on Essentials of Effective Instruction, on Thursday, April 21st, 2022. It is an interactive, full-day workshop that will provide you with knowledge and tools to improve your own real-world course and apply evidence-based instructional strategies that will foster student learning and success.

We look forward to seeing you in Boston in April and hope that you will enjoy the conference.
