Lauren McQuistion

Bio
Lauren McQuistion is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology. As a designer, researcher, and educator, her interdisciplinary scholarship is driven by a deep interest in institutions and how they physically manifest socio-cultural ideologies in the built environment. Her research expertise also informs her teaching, emphasizing place-based learning and the critical interpretation of sites as palimpsests of past, present, and future socio-environmental conditions. She draws connections between the history, theory, and practice of architecture in a range of design based and theoretical courses with particular expertise in the topics of 20th/21st Century Architectural Theory and History, typological analysis and design methodologies, the theory/history of curatorial practice and cultural institutions, and temporality in the built environment.
Lauren holds degrees with distinction from the University of Virginia School of Architecture (B.S. in Architecture with a Minor in Architectural History) and the University of California Berkeley (M.Arch). Prior to returning to UVA for her PhD, she worked professionally as an architectural designer in Washington D.C. and Detroit, Michigan working on a range of institutional and public projects, including k12 schools, higher-ed campus planning, and international sports venues including a series of award winning projects for the US Open Tennis complex in Flushing Meadows, New York.
