Letter from Mark Thompson - President's Report FY 2023

Dear Alumni and Friends:

When I say that Wentworth is at an inflection point in this moment, I wholeheartedly mean it. As the university enters its 120th year, we are embarking on an ambitious Institutional Master Plan that will transform our Boston campus and have a tremendously positive impact on the Wentworth community and beyond.

The Value of Industry Partnerships

Industry partners play a valuable role in the educational experience: Through in-kind gifts, they ensure that Wentworth students have access to the tools and technologies they will use on co-op and in their future careers.

Through capstone sponsorships, they provide students with a hands-on learning experience in a real work environment.

Breaking New Ground

Athletics at Wentworth has a history almost as long as the university itself. Beginning with baseball in 1914, the Wentworth athletic roster has since grown to include basketball, cross country, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

$2 Million Gift Launches Accelerate Co-op Experience

Entrepreneurship is one of the power skills of the 21st century. Like technological literacy and critical thinking, entrepreneurship—the ability to see what is, what could be, and how to get from point A to point B—has rapidly become a necessary skill for college graduates.

Letter from President Thompson - President's Report 2022

Dear Alumni and Friends,

This year, we are proud to talk about the way that resilience has turned into a complete renewal, with students and recent graduates thriving, alumni finding new ways to engage with their alma mater, and our plans to develop land that will continue to transform our campus into a major destination for students and industry partners alike.

Teradyne Boosting Access to STEM

Teradyne has joined Wentworth in its efforts to increase the number of women and other underrepresented groups of students in STEM.

The company dramatically increased its commitment to students in 2021 through a multipronged gift to the following:

Wentworth students are privy to some of the deepest industry connections in higher education thanks to various leaders who have partnered with the university. And students are consistently working on real-world projects, providing solutions to a host of industry challenges.

Lufkin Memorial Fund Aiding Women in Mechanical Engineering

During this past academic year, the Richard H. Lufkin Memorial Fund, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee (Lufkin Memorial Fund) awarded Wentworth two grants that supported students majoring in Mechanical Engineering. These grants provide students who are typically under-represented in the major with financial assistance that will directly help them pursue their undergraduate studies and graduate from Wentworth with an engineering degree.

The Power of Financial Support

It has oft been said that the pandemic does not discriminate in relation to who is impacted. But this sentiment is especially true for students and families who have carried an increased financial burden over the last year.

Whether a sudden layoff made buying books harder, hospital bills took away savings that were reserved for room and board, or the sudden need for a scholarship meant the difference between going to college or not, the power of donors and financial support for our students was underscored this past year.
