What courses are you teaching?
I teach Construction Graphics and Heavy Construction Equipment in the spring, Senior Capstone in the summer and Construction Estimating in the fall.
How have your interests, research, or experience led you to your field?
I fell in love with construction at the age of 7, and that passion fueled my decision to study construction management. When applying to colleges, I applied to study architecture, but I was admitted into a construction management program. During my academic journey, I took a Building Information Modeling (BIM) class. It exposed me to advanced construction technologies, which changed my career path trajectory and birthed a passion for using innovative technologies to improve construction processes. I have since interned at Autodesk, taught several BIM and construction technology classes, and conducted research on the use of advanced technology. This includes virtual reality, augmented reality, robotics, and automation to digitize construction workflows and enhance student learning experiences.
What are you most proud of?
As someone who comes from a country that for a long time devalued education for women, especially in STEM, I am proud of my academic and career achievements.
What is one interesting fact about you?
Whenever I travel, I collect keychains from every place I visit.
Name one exciting thing that is happening in your classroom.
I am currently teaching a Construction Graphics class that introduces building information modeling software such as Revit. Students are showing enthusiasm for learning construction technology. I am excited about teaching the next generation of the construction workforce, the technology that is transforming the industry, and the career opportunities available to them.
