What courses do you teach?

I teach Principles of Passive House Design.

How have your interests, research or experience led you to your field?

I visited Tokyo in 2011, shortly after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. Tokyo was doing a planned blackout then. It was an eye-opening experience to see how reliant we were on electricity derived from nuclear power. Around that time, I had an opportunity to work on a single-family renovation project funded by a Deep Energy Retrofit pilot program from National Grid with technical support from the Building Science Corporation. We were introduced to the super low energy building design standard of "Passive House" through that project. I took the course through the Passive House Institute US (PHIUS).

Why I am proud to be part of the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.

Describe one exciting thing that you are working on or is happening in your classroom.

It has been an honor to work with Wentworth students who are interested in sustainability design. There are a number of students who became Certified Passive House Consultants before graduating. Also, it is exciting to be part of the team to teach Passive House training to Japan. It has been tough to translate and revise the material to fit the Japanese building industry. My goal is to bring Japan's carbon footprint down.

What is one interesting fact about you?

I started working in the Architecture field after graduating from Wentworth in 2004. During this time, I realized how much our work intertwined with the environment and began to think about what I could do to improve that relationship.
