Student Ambassador

Responsibilities:

  • Student Ambassadors represent Student Life on campus.  They provide information and guidance for all students, families and visitors by staffing the Wentworth Information Desk, the Commuter Student Lounge, and the Center for Student Life.  Responsibilities include providing directions and information, discounted student ticket sales, monitoring public spaces, assisting clubs and organizations with events and requests, and greeting all guests and visitors to the campus center.  It also provides student employees with an opportunity to meet their fellow students, faculty and staff, and participate in campus events and entertainment.  This role requires strong customer service and communication skills, punctuality and attention to detail  All Student Ambassadors are required to have Work Study.  We do not have Leopard Work.

School of Architecture and Design - Lab Assistant

Responsibilities: Student Lab Assistants work together with the School’s technical staff and Graduate Fellows to maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all users and to support the core functions of the SoAD Labs.  SoAD Labs serve as an extension of the design studios and are central to students’ design activities and experiences at Wentworth. They are equipped with an expansive array of tools and technologies, ranging from traditional woodworking and precision metalworking to advanced digital fabrication, emerging XR technologies, and industrial robotics. Students use these technologies to produce outcomes ranging from representational models to 1:1 scale working prototypes.

Lab Assistant - Additive Technologies Lab

  • monitor 3d print queue and review .gcode files before sending files to print;

  • communicate any file errors to students and request a new .gcode file;

  • assist students on how to set up/correct files for 3d printing;

  • light 3d printer maintenance: filament changes, cleaning build plates;

  • identify printers that need more serious repairs and notify Supervisor;

  • general lab maintenance as required by immediate Supervisor;

Accelerate - Student Assistants: Front Desk, Floater, Morning Shift and Closer

“Accelerate is a community of creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial people and we're looking for work studies who want to be a part of that community by fostering a fun and welcoming environment. As we expand our workshop offerings, we're especially interested in hiring students who have special skills using the equipment and tools in the space, as well as those who can teach workshops.
 

Specific roles and responsibilities

On your shift, you will be assigned a position which will rotate each week between being the face of Accelerate at the front desk or a floater, completing tasks and helping those in the space.

 

Front Desk

  • Greet folks who come in and ask them to sign in
  • Ask those coming in what they are here for and take notes in excel spreadsheet
  • Help answer questions about the space and Accelerate
  • Keep track of day to day schedule such as meetings, events, guest visiting, clubs, classes, etc. so that you know who might be coming and and what events are taking place
  • Collect typical questions of people and suggest improvements as part of it in zendesk
  • Be helpful
  • Explain project plans to students interested in making something
  • Have students appointments through youcanbook.me for office hours

 

Floater

  • Responsible of taking on at least one task from ToDoist
  • Keep an eye on the space
  • Make sure students put equipment back to where they were
  • Help answer any questions

     

Morning Shift (Does not need to complete a task on ToDoist if assigned morning shift)

  • Walk around space and collect any personal items left in room and put in lost and found
  • Walk around and pick up any trash in the space
  • Put tools away collected in cart
  • Push in chairs and straighten out furniture

 

Closer 

  • 15 mins before closing, let those in the space know that the center is closing
  • Walk around the soldering station and work tables to put away equipment, materials, or tools that are left out and unplug/turn off anything left on (glue gun, soldering equipment, heat guns etc.).
  • Pick up any trash
  • Move tables back to the right place
  • Walk around space to insure everyone is out
  • Shut off lights
  • Make sure the door is locked (if not, call public safety to have them lock up)

Provide support to the University Events team for major events such as Women@Wentworth, Alumni Golf Tournament, Commencement and many other events throughout the year including but not limited to:

  • preparing materials for events (nametags, give-away items, information packets, etc.), 

  • organizing, inventorying and packing supplies for events, 

  • researching vendors for events, 

  • helping with design of materials, 
  • general administrative support – tracking expenses, scheduling, phone calls, emails, meetings,
  • attend events (not to conflict with classes) and assist with set up, registration and clean up. 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills: listening, speaking, and having a positive customer service demeanor. 

  • Critical Thinking skills: easily understand what is being requested to appropriately respond to needs. 

  • Flexible: Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and pivot when needed. 
  • Proactive: Keep team updated on progress and be responsive as much of the work is deadline oriented. 
  • Advanced skills using: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and graphic skills a plus. 

  • Federal/WIT Work Study only

Salary and Time Commitment:

  • Wage: $15.00 

  • In-person: If possible, at least on one of the days listed, Tuesday and Thursday between 9:00am – 4:00pm for approximately 8 -10 hours per week. Final hours to be determined by class schedule. Some work can be done on other days if needed and off-site. Work at events may be during the day or in the evening/weekend or off-site.  We can flex the weekly schedule if you are available to help.

Immediate Opening - Spring 2024 and Summer 2024

Responsibilities:

Non-Degree & Professional Student Support

  • Respond to professional student inquiries via email and phone, providing timely and helpful information.

  • Serve as an in-person classroom proctor, offering faculty and learner support during training sessions as needed.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Compile and organize training materials for training and workshops.

  • Conduct market research projects.

  • Support other administrative tasks as assigned.

Marketing and Enrollment Support:

  • Assist with outreach initiatives via phone and email to promote and increase new student enrollment.

  • Create flyers, certificates, and other graphic materials using pre-designed University templates (Marq.com) to support and promote various training programs.

Qualifications

  • Excellent Customer Service Skills: Ability to address student inquiries and concerns in a friendly and helpful manner.

  • Communication Skills: Strong listening and speaking skills to effectively interact with professional students that are divers in age, native languages, digital literacy, and career stages, in addition to faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Time Management: Efficiently utilize time to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Exel:  Proficient in using Microsoft Excel for data entry and reporting.
  • PowerPoint: Proficient in using PowerPoint for updating presentation materials.
  • Graphic Design:  Familiarity and comfort with using graphic design template software (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Punctual and Committed: Consistent attendance and commitment to fulfilling job responsibilities.

Additional Details:

  • Federal/WIT Work Study

  • Wage: $15 per hour

  • 5 - 10 hours per week
  • Expect regularly scheduled in-person hours upon days/time (Monday - Friday, between 9 - 5 p.m.) with the potential for additional remote projects and/or in-person classroom proctor hours based as needed.
