Policies on Sexual Misconduct
When Reporting to the Title IX Coordinator
You may speak to the Title IX Coordinator about any case of sexual misconduct. The Title IX Coordinator will investigate cases involving student and either staff, faculty member, administrator, contractor or volunteer. The process used by the Title IX Coordinator can be found here. The Title IX Coordinator will refer any cases involving only students to the Office of Student Affairs but it is able to assist in exploring all possible responses.
Student Procedures for Filing a Complaint
A student with a concern about a possible Title IX/sexual misconduct violation is encouraged to speak to the Title IX Coordinator/Vice President of Human Resources (Williston Hall 201, 617-989-4193) or the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students (Rubenstein 003, 617-989-4410).
Allegations against Wentworth students and/or Wentworth student groups: Title IX/sexual misconduct allegations against students or student groups will be handled through the Student Code of Conduct process.
Allegations against Wentworth employees (faculty, staff): Concerns raised by a student involving a faculty member, staff, other employee, or other Wentworth individuals will be addressed internally by the Title IX Coordinator or designee.
Allegations against non-student affiliates (contractors, vendors): Concerns raised by a student involving someone not affiliated with Wentworth, such as a guest, individuals from other campuses, or contractors/vendors will be addressed by the Title IX Coordinator or designee.
Allegations against an individual(s) not-affiliated from Wentworth: Wentworth will support and provide appropriate resources wherever possible.
Interim Remedial Action
Once the Institute is informed of a possible Title IX violation/sexual misconduct incident, interim remedial actions may be offered to assist the student. This can include counseling assistance, leave of absence, time off from classes, change of class schedule or activities, change of housing, no contact notices, targeted education programs, separation from the Institute or residence area; relocation of residence, restriction to designated campus areas or other campus facilities by time or location, and requirement to obtain advance authorization to engage in a specified activity.
Students Not Wishing To Pursue a Formal Complaint
Informal resolution options will be reviewed, which may include: administrative meetings, facilitated mediation, or no contact orders.
If a student chooses not to move forward with a formal complaint or informal resolution, Wentworth may need to investigate an incident further. In these situations, the identity of the individual bringing the information forward will remain private.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Wentworth understands that raising concerns about possible Title IX violations is difficult and it will take reasonable care to limit the dissemination of private information to those who have a need to know to assist the disciplinary process and/or investigation, and/or during the disciplinary process and/or investigation. A request for confidentiality will be carefully considered by the Title IX Coordinator. All reports will be investigated and remediated, to the extent possible, in cases where a confidentiality request is made and granted. Disclosure of private information may be made if the Title IX Coordinator deems it necessary to protect the health, safety or well-being of the student or Wentworth community.
The Institute has a duty to report data about various forms of sexual misconduct in accordance with The Jeanne Clery Disclosure in Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Act (Clery Act). No personally identifiable information is disclosed, but statistical information is disclosed as a part of the Institute’s annual security report. The information to be shared includes the date, location type (residence hall, public property, off-campus, etc.) and specific crime category.
Retaliation against any person in the Institute community for alleging a good faith violation of Title IX or for cooperating in the investigation or disciplinary procedures is strictly prohibited. Any retaliation will be subject to discipline up to an including expulsion and/or termination. Any concerns regarding retaliation should be reported to the Title IX Coordinator.
