Wentworth participates in the Semester Pass Program through the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). The semester t-pass is a pre-paid 4 month pass available to all Wentworth students. Students must order in advance through Wentworth to obtain the discounted price. Currently the discount t-pass program is only available during the Fall and Spring semesters. For students using the MBTA system less frequently (1-2x/week), it is recommended to load money on to a Charlie Card and pay as you go. Students may also obtain a plastic Charlie Card from the Charlie Card store at Downtown Crossing or order a Charlie Card with any denomination online at www.mbta.com

Payment Options

  1. Online. www.tinyurl.com/MBTAorder (no need to download the Order Form for online payments)
  2. In Person. Order and pay for your pass at the Info Hub desk in the Flanagan Campus Center located in the ground floor of Beatty Hall. Accepted forms of payment: debit/credit cards, Fenway cash and personal check. No cash accepted.
  3. By Mail. Mail a Fall 2017 order form and a personal check made out to Wentworth Institute of Technology.

In the past, we had taken orders over the phone, but will no longer be doing so. Miscommunication over the phone resulted in incorrect passes being ordered. We have decided to move forward with the requirement that students always fill out the Order Form on their own.

 

FAQs

Q: When is payment due?

A: Payment and order forms must be turned in no later than August 10th, 2017 to the Info Hub in the Flanagan Campus Center in the ground floor of Beatty Hall. Mailed payments should be postmarked no later than August 10th, 2017.

 

Q: When do I receive the pass I ordered?

A: Semester passes generally arrive at Wentworth in the second to last week of the month before it is activated. Students will receive an email letting them know where and when to pick up their passes. Students are responsible for claiming their pass at the Info Hub desk (ground floor of Beatty Hall) and must have photo ID. If a student needs a pass mailed home, they should contact Rebecca Ryan at ryanr2@wit.edu or 617-989-4890. Students will have the option on their order form to have their passes mailed home with the additional fee of $3 for certified mail to ensure the pass is not lost, though picking up in person is always preferred.

 

Q: How long do the passes last?

A: Passes are good for the entire semester, September 1st- December 31st (Fall) and January 1st- April 30th (Spring).

 

Q: Do we need to prepay for the entire semester or may we submit monthly payments?

A: Prepayment for the entire semester (4 months) is required to receive the 15% discount.

 

Q: Do the commuter rail, outer/inner express bus and ferry passes include the subway lines too?

A: Yes, each pass is all-inclusive from your zone all the way into the city without time, day or usage restrictions (unlimited). For example, if you purchase a Zone 3 pass, you will have access to commuter rail, bus lines and the subway from Zone 3 all the way into the center of Boston. 

 

Q: What form of payment do you accept?

A: You may prepay for your semester t-pass with a credit/debit card, personal check made out to Wentworth, or Fenway Cash. Cash is not accepted. Personal checks can be mailed to Wentworth Institute of Technology, Student Engagement, 550 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02115. You may pay with a card in person by visiting the Flanagan Campus Center Info Hub desk in the ground floor of Beatty Hall or by calling Rebecca Ryan directly at 617-989-4890.

 

Q: I do not know what pass I need. Who can I contact?

Q: I live on campus. Do I need a Semester Pass?

A: Not necessarily. If you are only planning on using public transportation once or twice each week you are better off picking up a free, plastic Charlie Card from Ruggles Station near campus (orange line station on Ruggles St.). You may load money on to this card and pay per ride. Having the plastic Charlie Card ensures that you will receive rides at a discounted rate as it costs more when you pay cash on board. If you do plan on taking using public transportation regularly for an off-campus job (3-4x/week) then you would benefit from purchasing the semester pass. Read more about Charlie Cards.

 

Q: I have a disability. How can I apply for the MBTA’s TAP (Transportation Access Card)?

A: You may apply using the application located on the MBTA’s Reduced Fares Website. Please keep in mind that this application takes 4-6 weeks for MBTA approval. Additional information can be found on the application.
