During the 2020-21 academic year, we will deliver a high-quality, engaging education that ensures timely completion of your degree requirements and an excellent student experience, including support services, while seeking to maximize safety and minimize risk.
Below are details for the framework of our academic plan for Wentworth’s delivery of the 15-week Fall 2020 semester.
- The fall semester will begin as planned with classes starting on Tuesday, September 8 and will end with the final exams period that will conclude on Tuesday, December 15.
- Across all majors, most lecture-based courses will be delivered through an interactive, virtual learning model for students living on or off campus.
- Classes that are primarily “hands-on” in nature, such as labs and studios, will be delivered in person with measures in place that will include the required use of personal protective equipment, physical distancing, and cleaning protocols. Using the virtual learning approach for lecture-based courses creates the space that is required to de-densify the labs and studios to meet safety guidelines.
- A select group of courses may be delivered in a hybrid model that includes both virtual and in-person learning. These courses will be delivered in this format if it is determined that this approach is necessary to achieve learning goals.
- Recognizing that students may have unique needs or a preference to remain off-campus, students may select to have their entire semester via virtual learning. If you have not done so, please go to Leopardweb immediately to declare whether you will engage with your curriculum guide as given or whether you will engage virtually for the Fall 2020 semester. Curriculum guides based on a student’s year and major were sent to all students at the end of June.
- Any decision by the University to provide a refund or credit, in whole or in part, of any tuition, fee or other charge in the event of a campus closure, suspension, or other change to the delivery format of education and/or services is within the University’s discretion. With regard to academic schedules this fall, while we seek to minimize changes to scheduled classes, we ask for everyone’s flexibility in adjustments we may need to make. Lab and studio schedules may be changed as we plan for de-densifying spaces. Additional information about scheduling will be shared in the coming weeks.
Academic Support and Resources
The University is committed to providing its students with critical, continued academic support and resources both in-person and virtually.
- Center for Academic Excellence: Staff will continue to support students with advising and tutoring through both virtual and limited in-person meetings.
- CO-OPS + CAREERS: Staff will continue to support students with advising through both virtual and limited in-person meetings. A series of virtual CO-OP + CAREER Fairs will be held throughout the year, beginning in August for our graduating seniors and those looking for a fall co-op.
- Douglas D. Schumann Library & Learning Commons: Physical distancing requirements will limit the library capacity during the Fall 2020 semester. Therefore, Library staff will continue to provide services and resources via email, chat, and web-conferencing tools. You can find the most up-to-date information on the library website.
- TechSpot: The Division of Technology Services (DTS) will continue to provide software, technology, and laptop support both in person and via chat support.
