Course Information

At ImpactLab, our students get the opportunity to choose from an exciting menu of academic experiences taught by current Wentworth faculty on campus. Choose one of these two-week-long summer adventures and begin your exploration in science, engineering, technology, or design.

We are excited to share this summer's course offerings below. All tracks will have a hands-on learning component. For more information about each track click on the title below.

Please note the information shared below are based on Summer 2022 offerings. Summer 2023 course offerings and application will go live in early December 2022. Please reach out to precollege@wit.edu with any additional questions.

  • The Art and Science of Making (Session I)

In this creative adventure, you will explore techniques in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), laser cutting, 3D printing, and other tools and practices for designing and making your own inventions.

  • Computer Science and Society (Session I)

How do we use digital tools to make the world a better place? Digital humanities might hold the key. At the intersection of computing and humanities, this course explores the use of technical tools to study social problems while also exploring the computer science behind the tools.

  • Design Magic—Industrial Design + Interior Design (Session II)

Shoes, games, sports equipment, medical devices. Buildings, interiors, green spaces. Incorporating elements of drawing, making, and invention, you will discover how designers create products, services, and solutions that make the world a better place.

  • Engineering Exploration (Session II)

Think you want to be an engineer but aren't sure what area is right for you? Spend a few days exploring biological, civil, computer, mechanical, electrical, and robotics engineering to find out which engineering field is the best fit.

  • Foundations in Architecture (Session I)

Calling all emerging architects! Boston is the perfect city to begin your architectural adventure. Using Boston as your inspiration, you will build your problem-solving, critical thinking, and design skills while exploring the history and theory of architecture, meeting professional architects, and learning about the field.

  • The Hidden Universe of Cybersecurity (Session II)

Your social media accounts, your cell phone, your computer, your shopping habits—all are under threat from cybercriminals. Explore the techniques hackers use to gain access to personal information and how cybersecurity professionals work to identify and mitigate those risks.

  • Introduction to Robotics Engineering (Session I)

Find out what makes a robot tick. You'll discover the secrets to building the world’s most advanced robots using innovative technologies, and the interplay in application of electrical engineering, computer programming, and mechanical engineering towards robotics.

  • Maximizing Your Computer Science Skills (Session I)

This self-paced course is designed for all levels of computer expertise. Students interested in various languages will have the opportunity to design a computer project of their choice while working alongside Wentworth faculty.
