Facilities Planning

The Planning and Construction department works closely with many departments across campus. We are in constant communication with Physical Plant, Purchasing, and a variety of academic and support offices. We strive to meet the needs of all students and faculty/staff members to the best of our abilities.

The major responsibilities of our department as a whole are to:

  • Solicit and obtain competitive bids for construction services
  • Provide planning services for small and medium size renovations
  • Review and recommend selection of Architectural, Engineering and Construction firms for planning and construction projects
  • Construction administration and scheduling on all renovations and new construction. Oversee contract specification compliance on those projects
  • Act as owner representative during design and construction process, providing periodic status briefings to other departments
  • Provide long range facilities planning and programming
  • Prepare projected monetary forecasts related to future construction/renovation projects
  • Procure and maintain all state and city permits required for facilities operations
  • Provide guidance to architects in preparation and periodic updates of Campus Master Plan for approval by the City of Boston, its municipal/community agencies and neighborhood associations
  • Maintain facilities space database and project document records

ALL furniture requests must go through both the Planning and Construction department as well as the Purchasing department.
