2018 Sexual Misconduct Climate Report
September 24, 2018
Dear Wentworth students, faculty, and staff:
In our continued efforts to foster a safe, inclusive, and transparent campus environment, I am releasing our 2018 Sexual Misconduct Climate Report to the Wentworth campus community.
In 2015, Wentworth developed a Sexual Misconduct Climate survey to better understand the experiences of our students and the climate of our campus. The second iteration of the survey was conducted in March 2018, amidst the continued national focus on sexual misconduct on college campuses, as well as the larger #MeToo movement. These conversations about the national sexual misconduct landscape reaffirmed Wentworth’s commitment to understanding our own campus climate.
The 2018 survey was distributed to 3,829 full time day undergraduate and graduate students, and 16 percent of our students responded. I wish to extend my gratitude to all the students who participated in this anonymous survey. National statistics indicate approximately 90 percent of incidents of sexual assault (National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 2015) on college campuses go unreported. Wentworth is no exception, which makes the findings of the Sexual Misconduct Survey important. More information allows us to better identify problems, challenges, and opportunities and implement changes accordingly.
The 2018 Sexual Misconduct Climate Report is released against the backdrop of national statistics indicating 1 in 5 college females and 1 in 16 college males experience incidents of sexual assault (National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 2015), more than two thirds of college students face sexual harassment ("Get Statistics"). One incident of sexual misconduct is too many, and we all share a responsibility to support a culture that prevents and addresses issues and incidents of sexual misconduct.
The 2018 Sexual Misconduct Climate Report can be found here. I encourage you to take time to read through the report. Wentworth will be hosting information and discussion sessions on this topic this week and next week. I invite you to attend one of the sessions listed below.
