CDSJP Lecture Series: EVERYDAY SEXISM: IDENTIFYING GENDER-BIASED MICROAGGRESSIONS
Wednesday March 20, 2019 12:00pm to 1:00pm
Whether the #MeToo movement has you feeling emboldened, empowered, outraged, or simply unsure of how to navigate this watershed moment of activism and change, this workshop has you covered. Together, we’ll practice recognizing everyday sexism in a variety of contexts--drawing particular attention to the campus-based environment—to explore the historical, political, and social context for sexism and violence against women, examine the intersections of gender-based microaggressions and race, class, ability, and sexual identities, hone skills and develop relevant interventions for challenging sexism, and generate interpersonal and organizational strategies for creating gender inclusive communities. This session will examine the impact of everyday sexism as a product of the patriarchal nature of the academy and will encourage participants to seek to find pathways to liberate students, faculty, and staff from its harmful, often insidious effects.
