What did you enjoy most about your program?

I enjoyed the laboratory experience that is paired with the class lectures. I am a hands-on learner, and to be able to apply the theory learned in lecture to experiments in the lab, allows me to get a good grasp on the content. Also, I enjoyed the multiple engineering design projects I have been able to be a part of through my five years here. For me, this is some of the most practical learning experiences that I have experienced here at Wentworth, and will be a real asset in my career.

What was your most memorable college experience?

Inside the classroom, my most memorable experience was my senior design project. This is a one-year project, spanning two semesters, where my team and I designed and fabricated a system to remove a 500-pound load from a pickup truck. This project was a great application of the mechanical and electrical theory I have learned at Wentworth. We were also involved in getting donations and working with other companies to help fund our project, a side of the engineering business I had not been exposed to until that time. This project was a good application of our engineering knowledge and my team and I had a lot a fun through the process as well.

What’s the most important thing you learned at Wentworth – what’s your biggest takeaway?

The relationships I was able to make. There are some great people, both students and professors, in the ELME program that I have been lucky enough to build relationships with and been able to learn from in these five years.

Technically speaking, the design projects were my biggest engineering takeaway, as it really ties all the learning you have completed into a single solution to a problem you feel is worth solving.

What did you like best about co-op, where did you do it, what was your position?

I did three co-ops at Becton Dickinson, a medical supply company in Franklin Lakes, N.J. I was an intern engineer in the Medical Surgical Research and Development division. I was given a project to update an out-of-date syringe pump laboratory that was in disrepair and inefficient. I was given full control over the design and implementation of the hardware and software solutions to bring the lab up-to-date. They gave me a lot of freedom with my designs, while helping me through the process as well. The things I learned on my co-ops really solidified what engineering design projects are like in the professional world. I was also able to learn and design software using LabVIEW, knowledge that provided me with opportunities in the job market.

What are your future plans?

I will be as an associate LabVIEW project engineer working at Bloomy Controls in Fort Lee, N.J., a LabVIEW-based company that provides test, data acquisition, and control systems solutions to various industries.
