Wentworth’s BARS team, part of Accelerate Wentworth Innovation + Entrepreneurship Center, captured second place at MIT Enterprise Forum’s third annual Beantown Throwdown on Oct. 9. BARS members were honored for their aquatic rehabilitation devices.
Beantown Throwdown featured nine teams pitching ideas to venture capitalists, students, business executives, and others at District Hall in Boston’s Innovation District. Other schools participating included Harvard University, MIT, Northeastern University, Boston College, UMASS Lowell, Berklee College of Music, and Babson College.
The BARS team—Jace Valls, BMED ’17, and Adam Zapotok, BIND ’17—explained their work in creating high-quality, affordable therapy devices for those with mobility impairments. Luis Mata, BMED ’17, is a founding member of the team.
For earning second place, BARS awarded $7,500 worth of legal services from Morse, Barnes-Brown & Pendleton, as well as an invite to pitch to Rough Draft Ventures, five common memberships for four months and shared office space from Coalition/DTX, and a one-year membership to each member at MIT Enterprise Forum. They will also have lunch with Scott Kirsner of Globe Innovation Economy and CHEN PR.
The Accelerate team Gentoo took third place in the 2014 Beantown Throwdown.
BostInno profiled BARS in a recent story. BARS was also mentioned alongside other Accelerate teams in an article about MassChallenge.
