English Course Placement Process

English Course Placement Process

All full-time Wentworth students, unless exempted (see below), must complete a writing course sequence as a component of their degree requirements. Prior to the start of each semester, all incoming Day students will be placed into the appropriate writing course based on the required writing sample completed during on-campus orientation sessions.

Summer Writing Sample Exemptions

Exemptions to the required writing sample are made for students who meet minimum SAT/ACT score requirements or AP English Language and Composition Exam scores of 3 or higher.  Students with the prerequisite SAT/ACT scores will receive placement for English I. Students who have scored below the minimum SAT/ACT score, as well as students whose SAT scores are not submitted, will complete a required writing sample on campus in order to determine the best writing course placement. Students with an AP English Language and Composition Exam score of 3 or higher also have the option of registering directly into English II.

First Week Reassessment

All student placement is reassessed during the first week of classes to ensure accuracy.
