March 20th, 2020: Important Update: COVID-19 Response

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

I am writing to express my gratitude to all of you for all you are doing in small and large measure to help one another in responding to the impacts of COVID-19.

Today marks the second day of distance learning for our spring semester, and I am hearing we are off to positive start. Early next week, we will be sending a survey to our students to collect feedback on the experience with distance learning and to understand experiences in co-ops. I hope you will share your feedback so we can both understand how it is going and how to enhance what we are doing.

I continue to meet daily with the COVID-19 Task Force to plan all aspects of the University’s response. We are actively engaged in planning for Wentworth’s summer semester, and I look forward to sharing details as soon as this work is finalized. Because we understand that students and their families are struggling with significant hardship, the deadline for payment on summer tuition has been extended to April 23, 2020.

We deeply appreciate our students’ and families’ quick response to moving out of the residence halls. We know it was not easy on you, and we were heartened by how everyone responded.

Our faculty and staff continue to be committed to delivering the highest quality of service and commitment to our students. Being student-centered guides us in all that we do and all that we will continue to do. I am grateful to all our faculty and staff for their tireless efforts and good cheer along the way!

As we go into this weekend, my hope for you is that you continue to stay safe and healthy and to observe all the recommended guidance from the CDC, state, and local authorities.

We encourage you to continue to check the university's COVID-19 website for the latest updates and changes. As always, please reach out to me at

Respectfully Yours,

Mark A. Thompson, Ph.D.
